What’s Playing at the Movies?

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

One might think that movie theaters do go out of business, what with the popularity of DVD movie rentals and movies, but the movie industry is still going strong. When it comes to looking for something fun to do on weekends, going to the cinema is still fairly high on the list, probably only second to many restaurants and shops. Sure, you could rent a movie to watch at home, but this is not the same thing as going to the movies. What are the benefits to the cinema? Well, to start, you’re doing something when you go to the theater. You’re getting out of the house, which is always a plus. And there’s something about popcorn cinema that is especially delicious. In fact, people popcorn normally associated with good cinema. The film is presented on the big screen with surround sound, which enhances the whole movie experience. The box office is usually a choice of at least five films available, depending on the size of the movie theater is. So chances are, there is something for everyone. The selection varies from romance, comedy, drama, comedy music, adventure and even horror. So no matter what kind of mood you’re in the box office is sure to have something you’d like to see. Of course, there is a possible detriment to enjoy a movie in a cinema – the people. While it may be more pleasant to watch a movie in a crowd, it can also be a bit frustrating. You have people who laugh too loudly and too long, causing you to miss the next five minutes of the plot. Or you have children who are misbehaving, running and talking loudly. And then there are people who are very eating popcorn, or causing a ruckus with candy wrappers. But the most scandalous behavior of all is the person who is sitting behind you kicking your seat constantly. But even with all these distractions, a little tolerance can go a long way. Just be determined to enjoy the film, whatever happens. There are people who are so addicted to the movies they are actually tens of times the same movie. Movies such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and Mia “Mama” are the types of films that people will go see again and again. I suppose some of these movies attract a certain type of movie addict, who see a movie again and again until they know by heart every line, and some even cry or sing out loud lines. The next time you’re in the mood for a good movie, head on box office, and take whatever kind of film that will make you happy. Make sure you get a box of popcorn and large fine, and by all means, try to find a place in the cinema away from all the troublemakers (children, the crunch of popcorn box and seat kickers). Enjoy!
