@AgencyXInc You could certainly pick far worse people to look up to. I’m a great admirer of Hitchens, particularly his assault on religion and advocacy of emancipation from religious totalitarianism. His evident charisma is backed up by a depth of knowledge one can only marvel at and an intellect that outweighs every opponent I’ve ever seen him debate. Add to that a ready wit and sense of humour and it’s difficult to resist. Anymore and I might have to take a cold shower! Get well, Chris!

@Tapiola2007 I’ll admit I had never heard of him until Penn and Teller’s Bullshit “Holier than Thou” episode. But Penn has worked with him and states he seem always drunk. And he does seem to be drunk.
I have to say that to me suggests to me the pure level of his intelligence. It is almost like he gets drunk to be able to think on our level. I love it, I love that he can still be drunk and talk at the same level as our “so-called” experts. He is my new personal hero.
And I mean that.

One of my friends is a Saudi muslim and he always tells me women have lots of rights there. Yet: they cannot drive on public roads, cannot make serious decisions without male relatives okaying it, have to wear a kayat (burqa) and on, and on. Why do male and female muslims use the language of liberal values, feminism, free speech etc to describe something that is NOT remotely that at all? Where is this coming from? How are you going to say women’s rights are on equal par in these countries?
